Aperol Spritz Cocktail Recipe

Apparently, it’s National Prosecco Week! Yet another reason for you to pop some bubbly!

Prosecco is a white sparkling wine from the region of Veneto in northeastern Italy. It’s made mainly from grapes called Glera, and produced in a method known as the “Tank Method”.

The wine is bright and refreshing, with flavors of citrus, green apple, white flowers, and cream. It’s high in acid, making it perfectly food-friendly. Try a glass with light dishes like salad and fish, or creamier fares like cheese or pasta.

I love a glass of Prosecco, not only because it’s tasty and refreshing, but it’s also super affordable. My go-to is usually La Marca Prosecco because it’s around $11 per bottle and can be found at your local grocery store (including Trader Joe’s!).

One of my favorite ways to enjoy Prosecco is in the form of an Aperol Spritz. This Italian aperitif is a perfect way to cap your afternoon and transport you to a dreamy Italian piazza.

Aperol Spritz ingredients for your new favorite Prosecco cocktail!

Aperol Spritz Cocktail Recipe

Aperol Spritz cocktails always transport me back to my time in Italy. After studying abroad in Florence, I discovered this bright orange drink and fell in love.

My favorite time of day in any Italian town is aperitivo hour! After work, locals gather at bars and restaurants to grab a spritz and some appetizers. You’ll probably see an Aperol Spritz on almost every table during this time at the local cafes.

The Aperol Spritz spices up your average glass of Prosecco with the addition of Aperol, an Italian bitter apéritif. Garnish with an orange slice and you have the perfect summer pick-me-up!

Aperol Spritz Ingredients (makes 1):

4 oz Aperol

3 oz Prosecco

Splash of sparkling water (this is optional...I never do it because I like a strong Spritz!)

1 orange slice for garnish

Directions:

Fill a large glass of wine with ice. Pour in the Prosecco and Aperol.

Top with a splash of optional sparkling water.

Garnish with an orange slice and enjoy!

Hope you enjoy this Aperol Spritz recipe in honor of National Prosecco Week.
